What this is

A reference on how each US jurisdiction regulates general contracting: whether it licenses, registers, or does neither; the threshold where one exists; and which agency holds the register.

Funding

This site takes no money from contractors, licensing boards, trade associations, or lead-generation companies. It sells no listings, no placements, and no advertising to any party it writes about. There is no paid inclusion, and no contractor can pay to appear, to rank, or to be removed.

It is operated by a single independent operator and is currently unfunded.

What this is not

It is not a contractor directory and does not publish per-contractor licence records. Checking whether a specific contractor holds a licence is done on the issuing board's own lookup, which each state page links to. That is deliberate: a licence record that has gone stale on a third-party page can send someone to an unlicensed contractor on that page's authority.
